The City Council of Móstoles has demanded from the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility that it quickly tender the remodeling and adaptation works of the Móstoles-El Soto Cercanías station, where «accessibility continues to be a pending issue».
The municipal council approved on Thursday a proposal from the PP urging the Ministry to expedite the comprehensive remodeling project of the station, an action that residents of El Soto neighborhood have been demanding for years due to the «third-world» situation of this station.
In the proposal, as reported by EFE, they denounce once again that the Móstoles-El Soto Cercanías station «is completely inaccessible, preventing people with reduced mobility and families with baby strollers from using public transportation».

The Mobility Councilor, Raquel Manjavacas, recalled that over two years ago the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (Adif) began drafting a project for the comprehensive remodeling of this station, which also included a new station building.
The project, still in the drafting phase, included the extension of platform lengths, adapted to 200-meter trains, the reconfiguration of track layouts, and the relocation of Renfe workshops to allow for a parking lot remodeling.
A few weeks ago, Mayor Manuel Bautista (PP) met with representatives of Renfe and the Ministry of Transport to address the continuous problems of this line and the station, particularly the lack of accessibility for seniors, people with reduced mobility, and families with baby strollers.

However, Renfe and the Ministry informed him that the remodeling plan for the Cercanías station, presented over two years ago, «has not yet been tendered and no provisional measures are being considered».
Therefore, following the approval in the Council, the Mayor of Móstoles will once again request the Ministry to «address the mobility issues of Móstoles residents within their jurisdiction», also addressing the «constant incidents and breakdowns, mostly caused by lack of maintenance».
«There have been over 1,000 incidents and breakdowns in 2024 alone. Additionally, there is an aggravating factor as, since the works on the A-5 for its undergrounding began, the number of trips has increased by 18%,» also highlighted by the local government.

The City Council will also urge the Ministry to «finally resolve the ongoing incidents and breakdowns on the C-5 Cercanías line«.
Lastly, the proposal approved in the Council also urges the Ministry to «enable free travel on the R5 from Móstoles to minimize the traffic impact of the A5 undergrounding works,» a request that has been made numerous times.
