During the meeting, the mayor of Móstoles, Manuel Bautista, met with representatives from Renfe and the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to discuss the status and service of the C-5 Cercanías line, the accessibility of the Móstoles – El Soto station, and the free use of the R-5 during the A-5 roadworks. The mayor described the meeting as «disappointing» because it did not provide a solution to the ongoing mobility problems faced by the residents of Móstoles.
The mayor expressed concern about the frequent incidents on the C-5 line, with over 1,000 incidents and breakdowns in 2024, and called for an investment to improve the Cercanías network, which the Ministry does not consider «necessary.»
He criticized the Ministry’s view that the C-5 line provides optimal service, stating that it shows a lack of empathy and bad faith towards the residents who suffer from the poor service provided by Cercanías. The mayor also urgently requested measures to improve accessibility at the Móstoles – El Soto station for residents with reduced mobility, elderly people, and families with baby strollers.
Regarding the station’s renovation plan, he was informed that it has not yet been tendered, and no provisional measures are being considered. The mayor emphasized the need for modern and accessible facilities for residents and expressed disappointment that there were no guarantees of improvement in the near or medium term.
The meeting also addressed the demand for free use of the R-5 during the A-5 roadworks, but it was not considered a priority by the Ministry. The meeting was attended by the Councilor for Urbanism, Housing, Heritage, and City Maintenance, Sergio Soler, and the Councilor for Mobility, Transport, and Consumption, Raquel Manjavacas, on behalf of the City Council of Móstoles.
During the meeting, held at Renfe’s offices in Madrid, the mayor expressed concern about the recurring incidents on the C-5 line, with over 1,000 incidents and breakdowns in 2024, and called for an investment to improve the Cercanías network, which the Ministry itself does not consider «necessary.»
«The Ministry’s criteria is that the C-5 line provides optimal service. This shows the lack of empathy and bad faith of Minister Óscar Puente towards the residents of Móstoles who suffer from the deplorable service provided by Cercanías,» he remarked.
Regarding accessibility at the Móstoles – El Soto station, the mayor urgently requested measures to «allow and facilitate access for residents with reduced mobility, the elderly, and families with baby strollers.» It was noted that the station’s remodeling plan has not yet been tendered and no provisional measures are being considered.
«It is unacceptable that, after so much time, there has been no progress in the necessary and urgent improvement of accessibility at the Móstoles – El Soto station. Residents deserve modern and accessible facilities, and unfortunately today we have not received guarantees that this will happen in the short or medium term.»
The meeting also addressed the request for free R-5 services during the A-5 construction works. Despite being a community demand, it was indicated that it is not a priority for the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
In addition to the mayor, the meeting was attended by the Councilor of Urbanism, Housing, Heritage, and City Maintenance, Sergio Soler, and the Councilor of Mobility, Transport, and Consumer Affairs, Raquel Manjavacas from the Móstoles City Council.
